Curriculum

Arabic:

Al Ehsan Community School offers the Arabic subject as part of a varied education.  We currently have a detailed Arabic Syllabus for all year groups taught by experienced staff. Our Arabic curriculum stems from first-hand experience of learning and teaching Arabic thus we have devised a curriculum that focuses on the four skills : Listening , Reading, Writing and Speaking ( Communicative Approach). We conduct regular assessments to track and ensure students are making progress.

Younger students are given a strong basis in writing and reading Arabic and obtaining relevant vocabulary through a fun and engaging manner focusing on instilling a love for the Arabic Language in our students’ hearts.  As each year progresses , intensity of the Arabic classes increases continuing to focus on all relevant skills .

Lessons are carefully planned taking in to consideration that each student will be at a different level thus differentiating the lesson objectives is of great importance. In addition to this languages support teachers work with individual students or in smaller groups to either catch up or work on different skills such as writing, reading or speaking.

Quran

Al Ehsan Community School gives great priority to Quran lessons and we see it as one of the most important aspects of the school in order to enable our children to become fluent in Reading the Book of Allah but also to memorize portions from it. The teacher emphasis on Reading and learning the rules (tajweed) as well as memorization (hifdh) of different Surahs as well as Duas.

As a school we have been able to establish a detailed syllabus for Quran for each year. The syllabus gives the exact details of what is expected from the students in each academic year emphasising on Makharij (pronunciation of the letters) correctly right from the beginning. As for memorization students are given individual targets based on their ability and previous learning experience.

Our Quran teachers are trained in making use of modern technology and techniques when preparing for lessons which takes into consideration visual, auditory and oral aspects of learning.

Students are given regularly homework which they can practice at home and teachers are asked to keep a track of this in their diaries.

Our Quran lessons are informative, engaging and enjoyable. In addition to this a point system has been put in place for students to compete with each other on a weekly basis. Rewarding students in this manner gives them a sense of achievement and become closer to the Book of Allah.

Islamic Studies

The Islamic Studies curriculum at Al-Ehsan Community School takes a holistic approach to Islamic Studies. The main focus of the curriculum is to make the knowledge acquired simplified to the level of the student, as well as to make it relevant to their lives. The main subjects taught within Islamic studies are as follows  Aqedah ( e.g Pillars of Emaan), Fiqh ( pillars of Islam e.g prayer, fasting) Tarikh & Seerah  (the life of the blessed prophet Muhammad, and the lifes of his companions as well as general Islamic History) and finally Akhlaq (Manners and etiquettes as a Muslim).

The curriculum integrates core Islamic sciences and conveys them using modern teaching methods making the learning familiar and easy to digest. Classes include core teaching, handouts, power point, class discussions, mini quizzes, and tests. To consolidate the learning teachers give out homework.  To make lessons fun and energetic we also incorporate class role plays, creative writing tasks and independent thinking tasks.

We hope through the Islamic Studies curriculum our students shape a strong & solid Islamic Identity making them balanced and successful members of their prospective communities.
